Yesterday, August 3rd, a forceful Hail & Thunderstorm hit the downtown area of Crested Butte in the afternoon hours of the day. The storm brought with it rain, grape-size hail and lightning. More than 2 inches of hail covered our yards and alleys, leaving behind a thin sheet of ice everywhere.

Some businesses and restaurants in Town suffered minimal damage from the multiple lightning strikes. Kochevar's, a popular restaurant on Elk Avenue, was struck by severe lightning, though luckily no one was hurt. That same powerful bolt left other businesses in Crested Butte without power for a short while.

We haven't seen a storm like that all summer long. And though it may have been quite an exciting storm to watch, we hopefully won't see it again.
