Good morning weekend warriors! This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Sunday, March 15, 2009. It's been a great weekend here in Crested Butte. We've had those infamous bluebird skies, perfect spring temperatures and smiles abound upon the mountain. The past seven days has brought us 8 inches of new snow, boosting our season snowfall total to 268 inches. We now have 15 lifts shuttling you all over the mountain, giving you access to a total of 104 trails, 64 of which have been groomed. Groomer's Choice today is one of my favorite single black diamond runs, Crystal. We should see partly cloudy skies today with the temperature reaching 38, and you can expect more of the same tomorrow and Tuesday. There's snow in the forecast for Wednesday, so cross your fingers and your toes. Spring powder skiing is unbeatable at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Those are the stats for this morning...let's move to the good stuff.
Today will be the final day of the DC Southwest Series. Watch skiers and riders go head to head in skiercross and boardercross events. This new series is open to all amateur skiers and riders; men and women. The top riders from the DC Southwest Series will qualify to compete in the USASA National Championships. It will most definitely be a good show, so be sure to visit the venue today.
The biggest event on the mountain today is in honor of the brides and grooms out there. It's time for the wedding show! Join us today from 02:00 to 05:00 P.M. in The Grand Ballroom at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square for 7th annual Gunnison Crested Butte Wedding Show. Over 30 wedding professionals have signed up to participate in this year’s show which offers all the services you might need to plan your dream wedding in the Gunnison Valley. During the show you will have a chance to talk with wedding experts as you sample great food, listen to local musicians, and view the latest fashions. There will also be several raffle drawings throughout the show including a sleigh ride dinner for two and a romantic one-night stay for a lucky couple! Contact Scott at (970) 349-6438 for more information.
Also, don't forget that next weekend, March 19th - 21st, over 100 free-heelers take to the slopes to compete in Crested Butte's Tele Extremes. The Telemark freeskiing event comes complete with welcome reception and awards party. The two-day big mountain event attracts the biggest names in the telemark industry and is unique to Crested Butte. Free telemark demos and specialty clinics also take place during this Telemark celebration. Call our events department to get the details on this impressive freeheeling event: 970-349-2217.
It's time to make your way to the Butte. Learn about great spring vacation packages from skicb.com or call the friendly folks at Crested Butte Vacations to put together your dream vacation: 1-800-810-7669. This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty signing off...I'll see you on the hill.
