Announcements |
Good morning ski bunnies and powder hounds. This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Saturday, February 5, 2011. We've had a trace of snow overnight and it is lightly snowing up on the mountain this morning. Crested Butte Mountain Resort has 15 of 16 lifts up and running this weekend, and you'll be glad to know that the Teocalli Lift will be spinning for your skiing and riding pleasure. We have 1167 acres of accessible terrain for you to explore, including 410 acres of Colorado's Best Corduroy. Jokerville is the Groomer's Choice today, but some of MY other favorites include Black Eagle, International and Keystone. All told there are 105 trails to ski and ride, 62 of which have been groomed overnight by our expert grooming team.
We've got snow showers in the mix for today's forecast, and high chances of snow are expected today through Monday. This also means that temperatures will be warming up again for the next few days, with highs in the mid to high 20's. It's time to get your snow dance on, and if you're not here already, I recommend that you get away from the rat race this weekend, take a drive over Monarch Pass and escape to the "Butteness" of the East River Valley and Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
There is so much going on in town this weekend, that you just might have to pry yourself away from the hill for a couple of hours. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Alley Loop Nordic Marathon. Nordic skiers far and wide flock to Crested Butte for this costumed race that features a variety of distances for people of all levels. The theme for this year's race is SILVER, so expect to see some bright, glowing stars out there today. The Brick Oven will be hosting New Belgium's "Taste of the Alley" Beer Garden from 12-4 and the awards ceremony will begin at 3:30pm at Maxwell's. This is a time-honored tradition in Crested Butte and quite a sight to see. The first gun goes off at 9am, and there are several streets closed in town due to the race, so folks are encouraged to take the bus today.
There is great live music in town this weekend and through the work week, so be sure to get tickets for something! Tonight at the Eldo, the Meditations will be rocking it out reggae style and a local's favorite Band, Doctor Robert, will be celebrating the Beatles at the Talk of the Town. On Tuesday evening, the Wailing Jenny's will be featured at the Center for the Arts. One thing is for sure...you will not be short of things to do this weekend between skiing and riding on the mountain.
Before I go, I'd like to give a big shout out to the Texas Ski Council for choosing Crested Butte as your destination resort again this year. Welcome back to the Butte! Have a great day and I'll see you on the hill.
