Good morning surf bunnies and wave hounds! This is Colorado's very own Beach Betty on April Fool's Day, 2011 and this is the Crested Butte Mountain Resort wave report. It's going to be waist high today, folks, so strap on your boards and enjoy the salty sea air. It's actually going to feel like surfing on the Jersey Coast in the fall today, with partly cloudy skies and the high temperatures pushing into the 50's. I hope you're around for the entire weekend, because you're going to see more of the same on Saturday. Surfing on the private waters at Crested Butte Mountain Resort is almost done for the season, but there should be plenty rideable waves this spring in the backcountry. Cowabunga!

Okay, that's all I can do without exhausting myself. Happy April Fool's Day- the weather was not a lie; the high temp for today is 51 and you will see partly cloudy skies, but here are the mountain stats for today. We currently have 13 lifts up and running, shuttling skiers and riders to a total of 105 trails. There are 76 groomed trails to enjoy if you like our corduroy, and today we are featuring International as the Groomer's Choice. We've had a great season of snow, almost 30 feet, and the natural snow base is 92 at the top and 72 midway up the mountain. I'm hoping to get up on the mountain this weekend to enjoy the packed powder and spring conditions- I'll be the one wearing a one-piece.
Speaking of CLOSING WEEKEND, there are some weekend fun events happening on Saturday; not only will you want to be a witness, but you may want to participate as well. The Bump & Jump returns to Crested Butte Saturday. Registration is from 9-10 am at Butte 66, and $15 gets you a free pond skim and ticket to the after party. Discounted lift tickets are available for bumpers and it all goes down on the Ruby Chief Bumps. If you're in to the Pond Skim, registration happens from 3-4 at Butte 66 and you also get a discounted lift tickets and a ticket to the after party. And, on Saturday night, Mile High SciFi presents the movie, SNOWBEAST at the Ballroom in Mountaineer Lodge. Set and filmed in Crested Butte, Snowbeast is the story of a yeti who eats skiers and terrorizes the town on the eve of the big Winter Carnival. But just when it looks like all hope is lost, a band of armed vigilantes led by a former Olympic skier set out to slay the beast and save the town. Admission is $5 and all proceeds will benefit the Gardner Family. Props go out to Crested Butte Mountain Resort for bringing some good entertainment to the mountain for closing weekend.
It's the time of year when we are doing more backcountry skiing and thinking more about hiking and mountain biking in Crested Butte. Don't forget that this time of year is also a great time to get your 2011-2012 season pass from Crested Butte Mountain Resort. You can get all the details you need by visiting skicb.com and clicking on Season Passes. For your convenience, you can BUY ONLINE and be all ready to go way before next season begins. You save money, stress and you get bragging rights for all those friends who missed the discounted prices that end on April 3!!!
That's all from me today, folks. Thanks for having a good sense of humor with me and have a great day on the hill.
