Happy New Year! This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty wishing you a happy New Year on January 1, 2010. You think remembering to write this number on your checks will be difficult, trying saying it before 5 am on the first day of the New Year. Anywho, we have had no new snow in the last 24 hours, but 3 inches in the last 48 hours and 4 inches in the last 72 hours. Our total snowfall for this 2009-2010 ski season is 98 inches, and our natural snow depth is currently 35 inches. Today, blow the stink off of you, I mean, ride 14 of our 16 lifts up to a grand total of 84 trails. There is 554 acres of terrain for you to comb today, 390 of which is groomed by our team of expert groomers. With their help, we have 100% of our beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain now open.

The skies are mostly cloudy right now, and I think I smell snow coming in from the north west. There is a 30% chance of snow for today and a 50% chance of snow for Saturday, so it's looking like a good weekend for all those locals who might have some time off. Temperatures for today could rise to 26-27 degrees and stay there through Monday. Be sure to check the Avalanche Report before you head into the backcountry today, and always ski or ride with a buddy out there.

Let's talk New Year's Resolutions. Some of may resolve to spend more time with our dogs; wait, we already do that. Some people may resolve to work out 4 out of 7 days of the week; wait, we already do that too. Well, I am sure you have a vice you're working on for 2010, but why not add driving a snow cat to your list of things to do. Crested Butte Mountain Resort invites you to our side of creating Colorado's Best Corduroy. Eager students learn the basics of driving snowcats, grooming, pushing snow, and get to experience one of the best ski resort jobs, well, besides mine, on a closed course. The school incorporates initial classroom time for safety and operational instruction then students get out on the course to maximize the driving time. There are so many unique things you can do in life-and this is surely one of them. To book your Snowcat Driving Experience call or visit the Adventure Center in Mountaineer Square at 970-349-4554.

I know what you're thinking...that would be great to drive a snowcat, but I'm just wondering where I'm going to eat tonight. Well, you don't have to look far! On the mountain, you can enjoy dinner at the Firehouse Grill, Djangos, The Avalanche, The Woodstone Bar & Grill inside the Grand Lodge and 9380 Prime. Each restaurant offers a unique menu and atmosphere, so when you're leaving the base area this afternoon, poke your nose into a new restaurant to see what you like. If you want to spend some time in town tonight, hop on the FREE Mountain Express Bus in the courtyard of Moutaineer Square. Downtown Crested Butte is a great place for getting some local color and cuisine. From pizza to sushi, and burgers to pitas, the restaurants in the town of Crested Butte will appease any appetite. Pick up a dining guide or take recommendations from the locals in town. You are sure to find a multitude of menu items that will fit your New Year's Resolution and your appetite.

I think that's enough for this morning. Get on out there and enjoy the day- I'll see you on the hill.
