Good Morning skiers and riders! Today is Friday, February 19th and it is shaping up to be another beautiful day on the Hill! I love to see fresh snow falling on the slopes of Crested Butte, and that is exactly what the weather experts are predicting will be happening today! Two inches have already stacked up in the last 24 hours and we should see more snowfall today, through the rest of the weekend! Temperatures are also expected to reach the upper twenties, so get ready Folks because we are in for a fantastic weekend of skiing and riding! There is a ton of activity happening on the Hill today, including the Dan Prater Memorial Cup and the 2010 Subaru US Freeskiing Championships. But first, I'll fill you in on a few stats to help you get acquainted with what's happening on the Mountain. Today, you can hop on any one of 16 lifts that will transport you anywhere you want to go. With 1144 acres of terrain open, you'll have plenty of runs to keep you entertained on the Hill, including 111 fun filled trails. Our hard working grooming team has buffed out 370 acres of corduroy and they have chosen Twister as their pick for best groomed run on the Mountain today. Also, the Super pipe is open and freshly cut for your skiing and riding pleasure! We've has a season total snowfall of 162 inches, giving us a fantastic 50 inch base. It is lightly snowing as the day breaks and you can expect so be skiing and riding powder and packed powder on the Hill today! Now, if you've never checked out the Freeskiing Championships, make your way over to the venue today to see some of the best skiers in the business rip it up on super technical steeps! Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Mountain Sports International have teamed up to bring the US and World Freeskiing Tours to the birthplace of Big Mountain competitions. Crested Butte was the first in the US to launch an Extreme Skiing contest, and this season marks NINETEEN years! Competitors vie for the largest cash purse on the Freeskiing Circuit and sweet prizes from all the sponsors! If you can ski or ride a blue run and aren't afraid to hike a little, you can be a spectator at this incredible event! Don't miss out! Also happening on the Mountain today, is The Prater Cup! This annual race brings 200 of Colorado’s top 11 and 12 year racers onto the Hill! The Prater Cup is in its 39th year and is sure to be blast for competitors and fans alike. Look for some high speed skiing and tons of fun as these athlete’s look to qualify for the Junior Olympics as well as beating out their competitors in the annual Nations Cup team event!
