Announcements
Good morning and welcome back to winter. This is Colorado's very own Snow Betty with the snow report for Crested Butte Mountain Resort on opening day, Wednesday, November 24, 2010. We are gearing up for a great season here in Crested Butte, and we are certainly starting off on the right ski boot with over 70 inches of snow during the winter pre-season. Look out the window, folks. It is still snowing out there, with no break in sight. In just the last 24 hours, we have received 6 inches of new snow at the top of the mountain and 4 inches at midway. With 23 inches of snow in just the last 7 days, we couldn't ask for better opening day conditions. So strap on your boots and wax those skis and boards- it's time to put your game face on!

Here are the stats for opening day. We have a 31 inch base and we expect this number to rise with the ongoing snowy conditions. There will be 5 lifts up and running, including the Red Lady Express, Peachtree, Teocalli and the Pine and Aspen Magic Carpets. We are featuring 20 trails spanned over 105 acres- which is about 20% of our beginner and intermediate terrain. You can visit skicb.com and click on Snow & Grooming Report for all of this information, but here is a quick list of trails that will be open for your skiing and riding pleasure today. Peanut, Bubba’s Shortcut, Houston, Lower Keystone, Warming House Hill, Poverty Gulch, Mineral Point, Kubler, Tulsa, Upper Smith Hill, Lower Roller Coaster, Rustler’s Gulch, Augusta, High Tide, Lower Ruby Chief, Bushwacker, Meander, Paradise Access and Conundrum.

As you know, the mountain operations crew works tirelessly this time of year, pumping snow, checking terrain and opening new trails as soon as possible. All updates will be posted at skicb.com and will be announced around the mountain on community boards.

All you jibbers and wannabes will be glad to hear that the Keystone Jib Park will be open for the first day of the season. The park crew has perfected 4-5 hits and one jump. The Adventure Park will also be open today- so bring the kiddos along for a jumping session on the bungee trampoline, and scrambling on the rock climbing wall. As weather permits, you will also be gliding on the ice skating rink, and sliding on the tubing hill.

Another great feature of this season is the 50-50 Package- wait til you hear about this. Folks can get 50% off lift tickets and $50 per person per night for lodging. Celebrate 50 years in Crested Butte and relive all the reasons our ski town is the way it is today.

That's all for today folks. I hope you have a great day skiing and riding followed by hours of opening day festivities. As always, I'll see you on the hill.
