What a time to be in Crested Butte. This is your Snow Betty on Saturday February 26th happy to report that today is another POWDER DAY!! Mother Nature has socked us in and is blessing us with tremendous snow this weekend. Over the last 24 hours 14 inches has piled up leaving behind tons of powder stashes all over our mountain. With 100% of all our terrain open and 22 inches of snow in the last 48 hours this is a fun weekend to be a visitor or Buttian here. We are up to 289 inches of snowfall this season, not quite at our record from the 2007/ 2008 season with 418 inches, but the snow just keeps on coming! They are predicting 80% chance of snow today with a high of 32*F and 70% chance of snow tomorrow.

Prater Cup is in town and the Grooming department is feverishly working to provide as best a surface as possible for racing on Buckley. Crested Butte’s marquee annual race will bring 200 of Colorado’s top 11 and 12 year racers heavily onto Crested Butte Mountain. The Prater Cup is in its 40th year and is sure to be blast for competitors and fans alike. Look for some high speed skiing and tons of fun as these athlete’s look to qualify for the Junior Olympics as well as beating out their competitors in the annual Nations Cup team event. 

Kudos to our Ski Patrol for flawlessly executing another early morning for control work and ensuring the main mountain was opened by 9am yesterday. They are on call again today to ensure smooth operations on the mountain and plenty of open terrain for your powder pleasure. Please help them out and Play it Safe by obeying the rope boundaries.

Join the Adaptive Sports Center and the Crested Butte Ski Club for the second annual 7 Hours of the Banana on Saturday, March 5, 2011. 7 Hours of the Banana is a lift-accessed endurance event on Crested Butte Mountain Resort's "Banana", one of the mountain's most extreme runs. Athletes ride the Silver Queen chairlift, traverse over to the Banana, ski or snowboard down, and repeat! Competitors are encouraged to sign up solo or as a team, don a costume and collect pledges to benefit the ASC and the CBSC. Various prize categories will be awarded, including the most laps completed and the most money raised. Registration is limited to 100 athletes. Secure your spot by registering today! Kids Rock - Wise Fool today from 4P.M. to 6P.M. at Mountaineer Square. Their mission is to ignite imagination, build community, and promote social justice through performances and hands-on experiences in the arts of circus, puppetry, and theatre. Swing by and check it out.

Since you will be are worn out a tired tomorrow after a weekend of skiing, stop by the Center for the Arts for a stunning ballet performance from Ballet Nouveau Colorado. Taking a new direction in 2007, Garrett Ammon and Dawn Fay took the artistic helm and launched the company onto the national scene. Under their visionary leadership, BNC has transformed into a laboratory dedicated to nurturing and developing captivating contemporary dance. Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for kids. There will be an opening reception from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Piper Gallery, with drink specials and complimentary appetizers. The show starts at 8pm. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity to experience fantastic dance.
