Good morning Crested Butte skiers and riders! Today is going to be a fabulous Saturday, the 24th of December, because not only is Santa making a visit this evening, but thanks to the ENTIRE mountain crew, East River will be making its 2011-2012 ski season debut today! East River Lift's opening will add six new and exciting trails to the mountain's already open terrain. Here is more great news to start your holiday weekend right: Base Depth: 20" New Snow Accumulation: 0" inches Groomer's Choice: Lower Treasury Temperature: High 29 degrees/ Low 4 degrees Forecast: Sunny Skies Special Event: 9380 has a special surprise for all you skiers and riders out there, as he will be making an appearance a tick past 5:00 pm today. I hope you've all made his nice list! On top of East River Lift, there are 11 other lifts open and spinning leading you to a whopping 59 trails, spread across 449 skiable acres. The diligent groomers have worked around the clock, creating Colorado's best corduroy on 30 of those trails. In addition to the 71% of terrain open, including 93% of beginner and intermediate terrain, as well as 51% of Crested Butte's advanced terrain, the Park Crew has also worked incredibly hard, opening the Painter Boy Park and Nastar Course on Lower Canaan, in addition to maintaining the variety of features and bumps on the Keystone Jib Park. No matter what your legs are looking to shred, Crested Butte Mountain has something out there for everyone. Merry Christmas Eve, skiers and riders! Although Santa's reindeer will be resting up tonight, Santa will be arriving just before 5:15 pm, with cookies and cocoa, and will be more than happy to take photos with you. At 5:30, you and Santa can watch in awe as the mountain lights up with the Torchlights coming down.
