Sustainable Home Tour

December 20

ORE hosts Home Tour of Straw Bale Residence, December 20th 10 am to 12 pm
The Office for Resource Efficiency will host a Sustainable Home Tour at Janice and Mark Lung’s strawbale home in Gunnison on Saturday, December 20th from 10:00am - 12:00 pm. The Lung home is built with post/beam and strawbale walls (except for the North bermed walls) with an R-value of about 45-50 finished with stucco on the outside and mud/clay/sand/milk paint on the inside. About 80-90% of the heat comes from passive solar and the remaining from evacuated solar hot water tubes, which also heat the home’s domestic hot water. In addition, there are thermal mass walls in the sunroom made of on-site adobe bricks. Because of these energy efficiency aspects, this home totals only to approx. $730 on its yearly propane and electricity bills. Come out and see how these natural building designs and products are used to construct a highly efficient building. Attendance is free and open to all. Contact ORE with any questions, 970.349.9673, or visit our website at www.resourceefficiency.org. Directions: 298 Crocus Road in Gunnison. Take Gold Basin Road South from the Gunnison Airport. Just after the main entrance to the Hartman Rocks Recreation Area go left on Iris Road, then right on Crocus Road. For more information on the tour, call ORE at 349-9673.
