3rd Crested Butte Snowcross

February 9 - 10

The 3rd Crested Butte Snocross event is scheduled to take place at the Town Ranch, located near the entrance to town, in Crested Butte, CO on Saturday, February 9th and Sunday, February 10th.

Best described as a combination of two snowmobile disciplines, oval track racing and cross-country competition, Snocross is often considered NASCAR on snow. Hundreds of racers from Colorado, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, are expected to compete in the western regional circuit race competing for manufacturing contingency monies, prizes, as well as a purse of over $3,000.00.

The course design and construction is under the direction of veteran snowmobile racer and local resident, Dan Locknikar. The challenging, oval-shaped course will be complete with tight corners, bumps, jumps, uphill, and downhill, similar to the esteemed ESPN Winter X Games courses. “The competitors are really what make this event unique and special,” said Dan Locknikar, who will also be competing in this event, “the fierce competitiveness and friendship, where both professional racers and recreational racers are competing side-by-side, is the true spirit of this event and that’s what makes it so successful. Not only that, but the course layout makes it spectator-friendly, as it allows them to be able to see a majority of the action taking place at all times.”

Qualifying rounds will kick-off on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The finals will be held on Sunday, February 10th, same time and place. There will be eighteen race classes with over thirty heats offering six to eight hours of free thrills for spectators of all ages. To sum it all up, Lynn Felkner, a former X-Games competitor, says “Snocross is very intense and requires a high level of concentration, both physically and mentally. The racer focusing on and finding the best line mentally will take it all.”

The race is supported and promoted by both the Colorado Snowmobile Race Circuit (CSRC) and the World Snowmobile Association (WSA).
