Detailed Description:
Strand Hill is a delightful, shorter ride that never ceases to please.
This ride starts off Brush Creek Road. You can ride the pavement on Highway 135 south two miles from town to Brush Creek Road (or the bike trail that parallels the highway), or ride Tony’s Trail and The Upper Loop or The Upper Upper Loop and/ or Whetstone Vista to get out to Brush Creek via singletrack.
3 & 1/2 miles out Brush Creek Road from it’s intersection with Hwy 135, take Farris Creek Road and climb a hill to the right. (Or continue On Brush Creek Road 1/2 mile farther turn right past a cattleguard on a singletrack. Ride across the canal and start up the Canal Trail, which is signed at the top of the hill after the canal crossing. Roll along for 1 mile and turn right on the signed Strand Bonus Trail and climb. When you reach the end of this great little singletrack, turn left and climb Strand Hill Road for 1/2 mile to the signed start of Strand Hill Trail.
On the way up be sure to close the gate behind you. Take a break here in the meadow before starting down; you’ve earned it, and you’re about to get your reward.
This singletrack is about as much fun as you can have on a bike. After a wonderful downhill romp in the aspens, turn left on the signed Strand Bonus/Canal Trail and head back to Brush Creek Road, and left back to town.
To add a little more singletrack on the way back turn right on The Upper Upper Loop or Whetstone Vista or the Upper Loop via Skyland. All connect to Tony’s Trail for more fun on the way back to Crested Butte.
